Welcome to (what was) Our Information Request Form

The vast majority of stuff that used to come through the form that was on this page was garbage (it's the Internet in 2006, what to expect: sub-human spammers and scammers seem to outnumber legitimate humans these days, or should we say they send out a lot more email, fraudulent or whatever). Huerfano County simply doesn't have the manpower sitting around to waste time dealing with the flood.

The next largest group of info requests (a much smaller subset than the spammers and scammers) came from folks who should have read the gov/index.htm page and called one of the phone numbers listed there to get the info they are looking for: several pages on this website say straight up that's the way to get the info. And No, the county's property ownership, tax assessor, law enforcement, and registered voter databases are not Internet-facing. Pick up your phone, make the call: our people are very friendly and would actually like to help.

Then comes the subset of requests looking for genealogical information. There are some very prominent (although privately funded and operated) websites that deal specifically in this type of info. No, we don't have a person on staff who's job description includes driving out in the countryside to find some private family's hundred-or-more year old burial plot to read the gravestones for you.

The smallest group of info requests actually came from legitimate folks looking for the type of information that this website was originally set up to disseminate: tourism data. To these folks we humbly apologize: we simply don't have the manpower or the funding to put mechanisms in place to help you in this way right now. In November, 2006, there is a ballot issue to be voted on in Huerfano County that would institute a 2% tourism tax on tourist accommodations and that tax is specifically to fund tourism-promoting initiatives such as this website. Once the county's voters approve this issue, then we can move forward into the next phase of promoting the wonders of Huerfano County to the world-at-large. Until then, our hands are financially tied. Update: The Lodging Tax initiative was approved by the county's voters and we are moving forward to fulfill our promises. Good things are really starting to happen...

These are the major reasons as to why we have removed the information request form that used to be here. You can always pick up your phone and call (phone numbers are on the gov/index.htm page) or you can inquire of the Huerfano County Chamber of Commerce or the La Veta/Cuchara Chamber of Commerce. We're real people and we love to help real people, just... be real...
